Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

generic mods are nazis thread

at buzzerbee
1) why was mini/crybaby's black smiley suggestion topic locked? the topic itself is very much valid and with discussion value and even you voiced your support for such smiley to be added to the game
why mini has to suffer from his topic getting locked when its other posters that (from your perspective) derail the thread
the correct course of action in this case is to split offtopic posts into a separate topic and leave the initial one open

2) i require my warning be lifted because
a) i didnt say anything rude or insulting to any specific race
b) i was barely asking whether we will have speed buffs (and possibly other effects) for some smileys. this is a valid suggestion imo and would greatly enhance gameplay

3) remove "troublemaking" as a warning because mods use it an excuse for bs warnings

tldr mods bad
discuss

Well, not every brown/dark skin tone person is African or African-American, it IS racist to assume that, as it is also racist to say you are European because your skin is white eg.

I think crybaby intention was indeed to cause humor over something that should not be a joke.

The rest of the answers were miserable.

A stereotype? Yes. Racist? No. Nothing about assuming nationality based on skin colour implies any beliefs of inferiority/superiority. Crybaby's original post was at best mildly amusing and at worst just not funny depending on your personal taste of humour.

SirJosh's and Falk's comments were racist - regardless of how serious or ironic they were. Task's comment was stereotyping so I don't think it should be punished as harshly as the other two - this doesn't necessarily mean that Task should have received less warning points but rather that there should at least be a difference between his and the others. I don't know what Luka's comment was as it was snipped.

When a thread prompts multiple racist responses I think it's more than reasonable to lock it.

Re: generic mods are nazis thread

Why Crybaby's topic was locked:

In general, I definitely try not to lock topics that spark discussion even if the people who have replied to it are breaking the rules. But it seemed pretty clear to me that Crybaby's intentions were not to spark discussion but to "joke" and cause trouble, calling it the "African American Smuley [sic]" and then just posting a single image of a dark-skinned smiley. As Andy said, calling it African-American just because it's dark-skinned is problematic. And the fact that he wrote "Smuley" and had no context to his image also indicated to me that the topic was more than likely not a serious one.

Why I won't remove your warning:

You were clearly stereotyping a race, which is not at all okay. Whether it was something seemingly "positive" or not, it's still harmful. I used the Troublemaking label because it's more or less appropriate for the situation, there wasn't any need for me to make a custom warning type called "Stereotyping" especially when I had to warn like four people at once. The point of the warning remains the same.

I have an idea for a caucasian american and latin american smiley too why is this problematic when discord does the same thing with its emojis?

we are so small as a community, we don't need strict rules anymore, everyone knows everyone.

We’ve toned down the warnings a lot but racism is never okay no matter how small the community is

When I found out what Luka's comment was I genuinely laughed. However, I think it's illogical to pretend that it has any place on the forums.

I don't know about you guys, but I made my post fully knowing i was gonna get banned for it.

The joke itself is mild and ultimately trivial, I agree, but let's not kid ourselves by pretending we didn't do anything wrong.

How long will it take me to get banned again?
Place your bets right here.
