Do you think I could just leave this part blank and it'd be okay? We're just going to replace the whole thing with a header image anyway, right?

Is the two-weeks gravedigging warning still relevant?

A lot has changed here since 2011 when we got dozens of new posts daily, but our gravedig warning hardly has. The forum staff may be more lax, but that scary red warning still lingers around here, spooking out anybody who dares to scroll down on a topic as inactive as two weeks, and serving as our nanny. But do we still need it?

Now we have like six posts a day, so over half of Game Discussion's first page is "dead" according to the warning which is basically the website admitting its own defeat. If I recall correctly, lots of gravedigging posts were "noobier" players who slightly cluttered up the forums by accident with questions and such, but nowadays most of us are experienced users who slightly clutter up the forums for our own amusement know what we're doing when we post on older topics, especially those that have only been inactive for a few weeks.

The conclusion? Maybe the gravedig minimum needs to increase to something like three or four weeks. Maybe the gravedigging rule could be replaced with a something else like a rule not to bump or start lots of topics at the same time. Maybe the warning text should be yellow instead of red. Or magenta. I don't know. Figure it out yourself.
I'm 2spooked now. That flashing red warning is gonna haunt my nightmares.

Re: Is the two-weeks gravedigging warning still relevant?

I didn’t know it triggered after only 2 weeks.

Maybe a month is better. I wouldn’t remove it or make it less visible though.

Is there still consensus here that the gravedigging stuff should be eased up a bit?

I say increase it to 6 months, I'm always scared to gravedig a topic that is still relevant just not talked about as much

I personally believe that, and with this being said I also want to make it perfectly clear to anyone reading that this is not meant to be taken offensively nor as a crude remark or in bad taste, that my opinion on the subject is

I don't think there's any pressing need to remove the scary warning. Those of us with experience on the forums just ignore it and new users probably are better off being discouraged from gravedigging.

Bumping this since extending the gravedig timer is a popular suggestion and nobody's expressed disagreement so far.

Is Different55 even still active? He hasn't posted since early July. BuzzerBee is active but I don't know if they can change the site or make decisions about this.

For those unfamiliar, the days of reputations were wild days. I too had one of the lowest reputations at some point I remember there was one particular user who got a bunch of -reps for reasons I disagreed with, so I spammed them with +reps.

Reputation is a zombie of a feature that goes way back, with the Forumify archives going from 2011 October to 2013 May. It was probably lost from the move from Forumify, as Creature, Fdoou, and Insanity all made threads asking for it back around 2014-2016. (Some say Fdoou is still among us to this day...)

It was brought back eventually, perhaps 2016. At least one archive from 2016 exists. Reputation was removed 2016 August after Bobithan made a thread petitioning them to be gone. Unfortunately (fortunately?) most reps from this era are lost, unless somebody has them saved up somewhere.

Historically, reputation has caused lots of problems. There was an entire thread for removing misused reps, there are many other threads about the problems they caused, and the youtube BBCode tag was even used to mass autoplay offensive videos before this was fixed.

The culture of these forums have changed a lot, so it would be interesting to see if reputation would turn out differently if brought back now. I think now there's less drama, and I haven't seen the kinds of harassment I used to on this place. Maybe we'd take it less seriously, since we seem to take this place less seriously in general. (Outside Mafia games of course. Mafia never changes.)

This is off-topic, but there's not really much else to talk about until Different55 returns.
